Now i have finished my prelim task i intend to move on to my main task "creating a music magazine" which will be aimed at the same audience as the student magazine. The magazine will include: a front cover, a contents page and a double page spread.
In my prelim task i enjoyed producing the final front cover and contents page and editing the images to make them fit on to the front cover after the photo shoot. The research was quite difficult at first as i had to think of what questions to ask people and find out what the majority of people i questioned would be interested in. However i enjoyed the overall task i was set and look forward to the next one.

The front cover of this magazine is brightly coloured and very appealing to the eye as the colours on this magazine complement rather than oppose each other. The mast head at the top (magazine name) distinguishes the magazine and enables the target audience to recognise it easily. The cover lines are in bold and easy to read, the seven pictures on the cover give the audience an insight in to the articles featured in the magazine. Geometric shapes have been used as the graphics on the cover of this magazine to make it interesting; this is enhanced by the colour of them. The design of this cover draws the audience in and makes them want to see what stories the magazine is covering.
WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THIS MAGAZINE?
ARE THE COLOURS APPEALING?
IS THE FONT CLEAR?
WOULD YOU PICK UP THIS MAGAZINE AND READ IT?

Results from questionnaire
These graphs show some of the results from my questionnaire; the first graph shows who reads magazines the most out of male and female and as you can see females read magazines more than males. So prehaps the magazine a create needs to be aimed more at females or i could try to invlove males by includind a wide variety of story lines. The second graph shows the age of students who read magazines; these resluts are quite simular so i would need to include something for both of these age groups.
LET ME WHAT YOU THINK.

Researcing current college magazines
The front cover of this magazine (issue 8) has a black background. There are twelve different photos all taken from different shots. All of the images show the students having a good time, some of them are drinking and some shots have been taken from their trip to New York. Different shots include a long-shot of a crowd of students in a club at a bash, a medium close-up of two girls smiling at the camera, a three shot of three guys at the bash with drinks and smiling. This represents that students at Ludlow College have a good time and go to bashs or on exciting trips such as New York. The images grab the readers attention and the cover lines explain what the photos are about and show what other stories are included in the magazine.
The front cover also includes cover lines which are in different colours making the magazine stand out and grab the reader’s attention. The different colours of the magazine and the hearts used to link the images together show that this cover has been produced by younger people and is quite child like. The colours aren’t very sophisticated e.g. red, green and yellow have been used as the colours of the cover lines, however the use of these bright, clashing colours grab the audiences attention and make them want to pick up the magazine and read it.

The Brief_Action Plan
I have been asked to use DTP and an image manipulating program to produce the front page of a new school/college magazine, featuring a photograph of a student in medium close-up plus some appropriately laid-out text and a masthead. Additionally i have been asked to produce a mock-up of the layout of the contents page to demonstate the grasp of DTP.
